HAUPPAUGE, NY - Why did the turkey cross the road?
That's a question to ask the wild turkey spotted in the turning lane of a busy road in Hauppauge earlier this week.
Local resident Dani Daly was driving along Route 347 at Old Willets Path, right across the street from the Suffolk Police 4th precinct, on Tuesday around 12:45 p.m. when she saw the bird.

Daly shot a quick video of the turkey and shared it on social media (watch the full video above).
It is unknown where the turkey came from, but Daly told Patch the turkey was reportedly seen in the same spot about 5 hours later.

"Turkeys are seen often out east, but I've never seen one in Hauppauge," she said. "And certainly not just standing in the road without a care!"
According to chief Roy Gross of the Suffolk SPCA, wild turkeys are common across the county, including in residential neighborhoods.
"Wild turkeys since being reintroduced in Suffolk County have made a major comeback," he said. "They are considered wildlife and are to be left undisturbed unless they are injured in which case the SPCA has a list of names of wildlife licensed rehabilitators."
