Cops: Man Tried to Steal Phone in Massapequa, Pulled Pocketknife on Employee

The man also stole a phone from the same location in May, cops said.

A Uniondale man faces charges for trying to steal a cellphone from a Massapequa store and threatening an employee with a pocketknife Tuesday, according to Nassau County Police.

At 2:35 p.m., a 20-year-old employee at AT&T, located at 450 Sunrise Hwy., saw a man remove an anti-theft device from an iPhone 6 and put the phone in his pocket, police said.

The employee confronted the man, who pulled out a pocketknife, gave the phone back, and fled the store, cops said.

Officers found the man, identified as Henry Cabezas, 49, in front of 5300 Sunrise Hwy. and took him into custody, cops said. Investigators found Cabezas had stolen a Galaxy Note S4 from the same AT&T store on May 26, police said.

Cabezas is charged with first-degree robbery, petit larceny, and possession of burglar tools. He will be arraigned Wednesday at First District Court in Hempstead.
