Division Avenue Student Earns Presidential Award For Volunteerism

Freshman Armaan Singh volunteers much of his free time with charities that help students in need and children battling cancer.

LEVITTOWN, NY — Division Avenue High School freshman Armaan Singh was recently recognized with the Gold President’s Volunteer Service Award for his exceptional volunteer work. The award is given by the President of the United States to recognize exceptional volunteers who are committed to solving community-based problems and who are engaged in a high level of service.

With a passion for service work, Singh has accumulated more than 150 hours of volunteer work this past year. He has been an active volunteer, peer mentor and peer tutor with the Hempstead P.E.A.C.E. Project since summer of 2020. The P.E.A.C.E. Project is an after-school and summer program that aims to build a strong foundation in education and character for at-risk youth in an underserved and challenged community. Singh participates in both the summer and yearly afterschool program. He volunteers on a weekly basis with the students in the program.

Singh has also been actively volunteering as a blog writer for a global Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics initiative. The time he volunteers to the blog helps youth around the world learn about STEM topics that are creative and innovative. His articles have also earned recognition on the blog. In addition, Singh has volunteered his time creating materials for the Magic Yarn Project, which is an organization that helps make wigs for kids with cancer
