Early Memorial Day Weekend Forecast Not Looking Good

A lot can change in five days, especially when it comes to a weather forecast, but the early Long Island forecast for Memorial Day weekend doesn't look all that promising.

Tropical moisture is expected to result in rounds of showers and thunderstorms across a large swath of the East during the holiday weekend, according to AccuWeather.

"Chances of showers and thunderstorms will be present all 3 days, but for now have the overall lowest chances during Saturday," the National Weather Service's New York office said in a forecast discussion Monday evening.

There's about a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms on both Sunday and Memorial Day.

Tuesday- A slight chance of showers, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 2pm. Cloudy, with a high near 65. Southeast wind 3 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Tuesday Night- Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before 2am, then a chance of showers. Cloudy, with a low around 56. Southeast wind 5 to 7 mph becoming light and variable after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Wednesday- A 20 percent chance of showers before 11am. Partly sunny, with a high near 76. West wind 5 to 8 mph.

Wednesday Night- Mostly clear, with a low around 58. West wind around 7 mph.

Thursday- Sunny, with a high near 71.

Thursday Night- Clear, with a low around 57.

Friday- Sunny, with a high near 78.

Friday Night- Partly cloudy, with a low around 60.

Saturday- Mostly sunny, with a high near 77.

Saturday Night- Mostly cloudy, with a low around 59.

Sunday- A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Partly sunny, with a high near 71.

Sunday Night- A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 58.

Memorial Day- A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 68.
