Severe Thunderstorm Watch Issued For Long Island

The National Weather Service has now issued a severe thunderstorm watch for Long Island. It will be in effect until 9 p.m. Wednesday.

Quarter-size hail and wind gusts up to 70 mph are possible. The highest chance for storms on the island will be from about 6-9 p.m.

Localized flooding cannot be ruled out due to high rainfall rates and if thunderstorms pass over the same areas.

Wednesday Night-A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds and heavy rain. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 70. West wind 5 to 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%.

Thursday- Partly sunny, with a high near 84. Northwest wind 5 to 7 mph.

Thursday Night- Partly cloudy, with a low around 68. Light and variable wind.

Friday- Mostly sunny, with a high near 83. Northeast wind around 7 mph becoming east in the afternoon.

Friday Night- Mostly cloudy, with a low around 70.

Saturday- A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after noon. Partly sunny, with a high near 84.
