Heat Advisory Issued For Parts Of LI Due To High Temperatures

It could feel like 100 degrees or more in some areas, so residents should stay indoors and cool, if possible.

LONG ISLAND, NY — A heat advisory has been issued for Nassau County and western Suffolk County for Tuesday and Wednesday, as temperatures could feel like 100 degrees or more in areas.

According to the National Weather Service, the advisory is in effect from 11 a.m. today through 8 p.m. Wednesday for all of Nassau County and the western half of Suffolk County.

Daytime highs are predicted to climb to the low 90s, but humidity will make it feel even hotter, the NWS said. It could feel like the low 100s.

Heavy rain is expected Wednesday night, which will break the heat. High temperatures for the rest of the week are predicted to be in the mid 80s.

Nassau County has opened three cooling centers to give residents without air conditioning a place to cool off during the day.

Symptoms of heat-related illnesses may include: headache, dizziness, fatigue, anxiety, nausea, vomiting, and low pulse rate. Other symptoms may include cold pale and clammy skin or hot, flushed dry skin.

Anyone experiencing symptoms of heat illness should immediately get into a cool, shady area to lower their temperature. For severe heat illness, call 911.
