Latest Levittown Coronavirus Updates

LEVITTOWN, NY—The new coronavirus outbreak in New York and across the nation is having vast impacts in Levittown including the closure of schools and many businesses.

The number of cases of the illness caused by the virus, known as COVID-19, continue to rise everywhere. As of Monday, 66,497 have tested positive for the virus in New York. In Nassau County, there are 7,344 positive cases, according to New York State Public Health Department. Executive Laura Curran announced Monday that the death toll in Nassau County has now jumped to 48. The ages of the latest patients to succumb to the virus range from 42 to 87-years-old. In Levittown, there are currently 128 positive cases of the virus, according to this Nassau County map.

To minimize the spread of the virus, Curran is asking funeral homes and cemeteries to refrain from holding large wakes and funerals at this time.

"I know this is hard but we are diligently working with funeral directors for guidance on how to handle services during COVID-19 so we can safely grieve our loved ones," she said Monday.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo has also extended his order for all nonessential workers to stay home for another two weeks, stretching the state's shutdown to April 15 amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Levittown Businesses
All non-essential businesses in Levittown must remain closed until further notice, per the governor's executive order. Nassau County is urging businesses to take ten minutes to respond to its economic impact survey at www.hofstra.edu/economicimpact. Feedback will help the county’s Coronavirus Economic Advisory Council assess the financial impact of COVID-19 on the local economy and help secure support from state and federal partners.

Levittown Schools

Levittown schools remain closed until at least April 15, per Gov. Andrew Cuomo's order. Remote learning will not take place during the scheduled Spring break (April 9-April 17), according to school officials.

The food pantry will open Tuesday from 10 a.m-12 p.m. at Wisdom Lane Middle School. Island Harvest will also be there distributing perishable meals to families. Breakfast and lunch are distributed to students who need them at Salk Middle School on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12 p.m.-3 p.m., according to Levittown Public Schools.
