The celebration will be a "drive-in" event this year, with fireworks and a concert headlined by popular Long Island musicians Mike DelGuidice & Big Shot. The event kicks off with a special "Salute to Veterans" celebration and a special recognition for COVID-19 front line workers. A rain date is planned for 7:30 p.m Sunday.
The reimagined festivities will be limited to Town of Hempstead residents only on a first-come, first served basis. Attendees are asked to remain in their vehicles, and residents will not be allowed to sit or stand outside the vehicle during the concert.

Notably, the Jones Beach annual fireworks show will not be held this year, joining numerous other celebrations on Long Island to be canceled this year due to the coronavirus. For those looking for some fun in the sun, beaches across Long Island remain open, including Jones Beach, which reopened at half capacity. Tennis and pickleball courts were also recently opened for singles and doubles play in the Town of Hempstead. The town also planned to reopen pools by July 3, with Newbridge Road Pool, Echo Park Pool and Veterans Memorial Park Pool opening by June 27.
Additionally, indoor and outdoor dining will also be available for residents wanting to get out of the house, as long as the infection rate remains down.
Long Island is expected to enter phase three of reopening businesses this week, allowing non hair service-related personal care businesses to reopen, as well as indoor service at restaurants and bars. The reopening comes with severe restrictions, however, such as requiring people to wear masks, social distance from one another and limit capacity to 50 percent.
Due to the pandemic, counties or cities may adjust or cancel events at the last minute. Check your event before you go. Know of other events in the area? Post them on the Patch calendar or share details on our free Neighbor Post feature.
