Levittown Coronavirus Updates: April 16

LEVITTOWN, NY — The number of new coronavirus cases, which causes the COVID-19 disease, climbed to over 500 in Levittown on Tuesday. There are now 26,715 confirmed cases in Nassau County, and 1,057 coronavirus-related deaths.

Here's a breakdown of confirmed COVID-19 cases as of Tuesday:

TESTING INFO

Those interested in being tested for COVID-19 can use the county health department's online screening tool to share symptom and preregister for testing. A hotline is also available for questions at 1-888-364-3065, as well as an email form.

Drive-thru test sites have been established across Long Island. These facilities reduce density and the potential for spread by keeping sick and at-risk people out of health care facilities where they could infect others.

The drive-thru sites are prioritizing people showing symptoms and who are among the highest risk population and those who have been in close contact with someone with the disease, as well as health care workers, nursing home workers and first responders.

Testing is by appointment only. Test results are sent to people by phone or text, and can be found using an online portal.

SCHOOLS

All state school buildings will be closed until at least May 15, Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced this month. The same goes for nonessential businesses.

Students in the Levittown Public Schools are using remote learning techniques to teach children.

CANCELLATIONS/CLOSURES

Hempstead Town Hall was closed to the public until further notice.

All Hempstead Town Department of Parks and Recreation playgrounds, dog parks, courts and golf courses were closed until further notice. This is in addition to temporary closures at Newbridge Ice Rink, the Echo Park Pool Complex and the postponement of all activities, community events, Camp ANCHOR programs and meetings. Also, the Norman J. Levy Park and Reserve in Merrick was also closed until further notice.

All town recycling collections were suspended indefinitely due to staffing issues.

Passport Day, scheduled for April 25 at Town Hall, was canceled.

The April 18 E-Cycle & Shredding Program and the April 19 S.T.O.P. Program were canceled.

The Hempstead Town Tax Office was closed to the public, though property tax payments can be paid online or by mail.

Enforcement of parking permits was suspended until further notice.

The Diocese of Rockville Centre announced that all funerals, weddings and other services at Catholic churches across Long Island are canceled. In March, the Diocese said all masses for a month — including all Holy Week and Easter services — would be canceled due to the coronavirus.
