  • Elmer F. Chapman of Levittown died on August 14, 2013. Retired Deputy Chief, FDNY. Beloved husband of the late Helen R. Loving father of Robert (Jennie), John (Nancy), James (Lois) and Marianne McLaughlin (Bill). Cherished grandfather of nine and great-grandfather of seven. Friends may call Wednesday 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Thomas F. Dalton Funeral Homes, Levittown Chapel, 2786 Hempstead Tpke. (two blocks east of Wantagh Parkway). Mass Thursday 10 a.m. at Holy Family R.C. Church. Interment Calverton National Cemetery.   • John F. Cummings of Levittown passe away on August 19, 2013 in his 81st year. Beloved husband of Eileen. Loving father of Deborah Mennito (Anthony) and Jacqueline Giovanniello. Cherished grandfather of Anthony, Julianna, Randy and Thomas. Family will receive friends Thursday 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Charles J. O'Shea Funeral Home, 603 Wantagh Ave. (Exit 28N SSSPKWY) Wantagh, NY. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, 10 a.m., St. Bernards R.C. Church, Levittown.   • Rudolph Joseph Rudinsky, 93, died peacefully surrounded by family on August 15, 2013 in Plano, TX. "Rudy" was born Easter Sunday, April 4, 1920, on 12th St in NYC to Rudolph and Anna (Vrbinar) Rudinsky. Rudy is survived by his wife of 67 years, Carol (Nealy), daughters Marjorie (partner Darcy) and Barbara (husband Joseph), nieces Clarissa and Debra, grandchildren Lana (husband Bernardo) and Samantha, grandson Senior Airman Michael Rosio, and a great granddaughter Alexa. He was preceded in death by his brother Edward, and his sons Paul and Thomas. Rudy fought in WWII in the European theater with the 45th Infantry Div. ("Thunderbirds") in eight major campaigns (511 combat days): Sicily, Salerno, Anzio, Rome-Arno, Southern France, Rhineland, Ardennes-Alsace, and Central Europe. Rudy received a Purple Heart and Bronze Star with "V" device. Rudy also served as a fireman with the NYFD and worked for the US Postal Service. He retired from the Army Reserves as a Lieutenant Colonel. Rudy & Co. lived in Levittown, LI for 53 years, then moved to Plano, TX to be with family. He enjoyed cigars, books, crosswords and Django Reinhardt. Rudy's presence in our lives will be greatly missed. Burial in Green-Wood Cemetery in Brooklyn, NY: at 10AM on August 22, 2013. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the 45th Infantry Division Association, 2145 N.E. 36th St, Oklahoma City, OK 73111.
