Levittown Tree-Lighting Ceremony: Last-Minute Changes Announced

Organizers have announced last-minute changes ahead of Levittown's tree-lighting ceremony Monday.

LEVITTOWN, NY — The entertainment portion of Levittown's tree-lighting ceremony has been moved indoors as a fast-moving winter storm dumps snow on Long Island. Organizers had planned to hold the two-hour annual ceremony outdoors at Veterans Memorial Park, in front of Levittown Public Library.

The Levittown Chamber of Commerce said that while the festivities would still kick off at 6 p.m. Monday, the entertainment portion of the evening was moved to the main floor of the library. The actual tree-lighting will still take place outdoors in the park around 7:30 p.m., organizers said.

The fun-filled evening promises performances by local schools, dance studios and community groups. Santa Claus himself also plans to take time out of his busy schedule to stop by and say, "hi" to kids on the "Nice" list, too.

The commerce chamber will accept donated food and toiletries. Furthermore, hot chocolate will be available at no charge at the library.

The National Weather Service predicted the area will see rain before 5 p.m. followed by a wintry mix of rain and snow. Temperatures will fall to about 35 degrees, though it'll feel closer to 25 or 30 degrees as wind gusts reach up to 28 mph.
