Those looking to celebrate Halloween with scares have no shortage of venues to find their screams this year.
Long Island is full of haunted houses and other spooky attractions. We've compiled a list of attractions that range from creepy to downright terrifying. And for even more, visit LIHauntedHouses.com's Haunted House Guide.

Crypts of the Coliseum
1255 Hempstead Turnpike, Uniondale (Nassau Coliseum)
This year, the place to be seems like it’s going to be Nassau Coliseum, as Blood Manor, one of New York City’s most popular and terrifying haunted attractions, turns the arena into the Crypts of the Coliseum.

Crypts of the Coliseum will feature terrifying creatures of the night lurking at every corner as visitors travel through the 10,000 square foot maze of corridors, chambers and hidden places. Several new characters have joined Blood Manor's "League of the Undead" and are anxiously awaiting their chance to terrorize all visitors with new scares and surprises.
Tickets for the experience are $30. The attraction will be open from Oct. 5 through Oct. 31.
Hempstead House Haunt: Dante’s Inferno
127 Middle Neck Road, Sands Point
Abandon all hope, ye who enter here…
This Halloween, Hempstead House will transform into a hellish interpretation of one of the greatest pieces of western literature. You will experience Dante’s journey in this emotionally charged installation as you explore the hallways, rooms and vast basement. It promises to be a wicked whirlwind of stunning visuals, hauntingly vivid original imagery and powerful symbolism. It is up to you to explore and interpret each room and make this journey your own. What you find may shed light in this dark place and, hopefully, help you to find your way out of hell.
This attraction is open for six nights only: Oct. 25 through 31, from 7 to 11 p.m. each night. Tickets are $25 for Sands Pointe Conservancy members and $30 for the general public.
8 Bayville Ave., Bayville
The Bayville Scream Park is a Halloween theme park. It features attractions like The Temple of Terror, Uncle Needle’s Funhouse of Fear, Cures of the Zombie Pirates and more. It has been named the scariest haunted house on Long Island many times.
Ticket prices vary, but the pass for all six attractions is $49.75. It also features “Not So Scary” days on the weekends for kids and families. The box office opens at 6 p.m. every day and the attractions open at 7 p.m.
NYZ Apocalypse: Total Fear
450 Commack Road, Deer Park
NYZ Apocalypse, the interactive zombie experience, has revamped its program for 2017 to create three new and terrifying experiences for Halloween.
City of Death: An apocalypse of undead proportions has taken the city and it must be purged of zombie scum. Your mission is to escape and take out as many walking corpses before they take you and the city out for a bite to eat. Each group is equipped with a high velocity weapons to defend themselves.
Clown Beatdown: A gang of psychotic clowns is on the loose and they’re not taking prisoners. Your mission is to beat them before they beat you..Literally! Each group is equipped with foam melee weapons to defend themselves.
Escape the Dark Ritual: Urban exploration goes wrong your team breaks into an abandoned prison in total darkness and stumbles upon a Satanic cult conspiring to raise a demon and end the world. Your mission is to escape the dark, stop the ritual and save the world and you only have your wits and single flashlight to do it in this hybrid horror escape game.
City of the Dead and Clown Beatdown are $25 each, and Escape the Dark Ritual is $30. Those brave enough to try all three can purchase the All Out Terror Pass, which gives you access to all three experiences, for $62.50
Horse Ability’s Haunted Hay Barn
223 Store Hill Road, Old Westbury (SUNY Old Westbury Campus)
Come on down for a frightful night roaming the many creepy rooms, sure to hit a nerve with any and all of your deepest fears. The Hay Barn takes place in the historic 1912 Broad Hollow Barn that has a few more ghosts and ghouls in it than the ones we brought in. The event is created with some of the twisted minds that brought us the Bayville Haunted Fire House.
The attraction costs $13 per person. It’s open Oct. 13, 14, 15, 20, 21, 22, 23, 27, 28, 29 and 30. All funds raised go directly into HorseAbility, 501c3 not-for-profit organization that provides equine facilitated programs to children and adults with special needs.
Restless Souls Haunted House Complex
301 West Hills Road, Huntington Station
The Haunted House Complex offers four different, horrifying attractions. The Haunted Attractions utilize a time-tested combination of interactive and up-close actors, Hollywood-quality props and audio-animatronics, elaborate sets and controlled lighting and audio design to ensure your time with the creatures is as immersive and realistic as can be.
The attractions feature The Shack of Screams, The Dark Colony and Klownkatraz 3D. The fourth attraction is TBA.
Tickets for all four attractions are $27. The attraction is open Fridays and Saturdays from 6 to 10 p.m., and Sundays from 5 to 9 p.m. starting Oct. 13.
Darkside Haunted House
5184 NY-25A, Wading River
The Darkside Haunted House is Long Island's premier haunted attraction. This year is bigger and scarier than ever. Come make your way through the newly expanded haunted village. Then the terror continues as you make your way through the new, updated haunted house. Come experience the movie-quality sets, the bone-chilling special effects and the heart-pounding scares that make the Darkside Haunted House the place to be.
The nighttime attractions are open on varying days through October. Check the website for details. Tickets for the nighttime attractions are $25. There are also daytime, less-scary hours. Tickets for the daytime shows are $12.
Chamber of Horrors NY
1745 Express Drive North, Hauppauge
The Chamber of Horrors is one of Long Island’s most popular haunted houses. During the Trilogy of Fear taking place Fridays and Saturdays, brave visitors will have an incredible experience exploring three haunts. Visitors can wander the chilling labyrinth of Maniac Manor, dodge ghouls and goblins in 3, 2, 1...Blackout! and finally stagger through the horror of the Slaughter House. On Sundays, the lights go out for one of The Chamber’s most terrifying events - Kill the Light. With every bulb in the haunt extinguished, visitors are sent through in complete darkness with only a single glow stick to guide their way -- backwards.
In addition, 2017 will see two new attractions: Long Island’s first virtual reality haunt tour and a three-minute escape room.
The Trilogy of Fear is open Fridays and Saturdays from 7 to 11 p.m. Kill the Lights is open Sundays from 7 to 10 p.m. Tickets for both are $30.
Gateway’s Haunted Playhouse
215 South Country Road, Bellport
The Haunted Playhouse, one of the scariest haunted houses on Long Island. It features a professional set and costumes, as well as fantastic actors who draw you into the horror -- for better or worse.
It’s open multiple days in October, with some times being less scary for children.. Tickets are $25.
The Haunted Mansion of Melville
26 Pinelawn Road, Melville
Voted one of the scariest haunted houses on Long Island, the Haunted Mansion of Melville has been running for more than 20 years. Try to survive the haunted mansion, where a crazed doctor performed horrifying experiments. Then, try to survive the haunted corn maze.
The haunt is open Fridays and Saturdays from 7 p.m. to midnight and Thursday, Sundays and Oct. 30 and 31 from 7 to 11 p.m. Ticket prices have not yet been announced.
Haunted River Tour
2979 Montauk Highway, Brookhaven
Take a boat ride through the sites and sounds of a scary Halloween tale, on the Carmans River. Explore a section of the river where ghosts and ghouls will lurk in the forest and on the river around you. A bone-chilling, frightening river tour and a story to unfold on your journey. Creepy and ghoulish guides will be there to give you a genuine supernatural river experience.
The tour runs through the month of October, except Sundays, from 7 to 11:30 p.m. Tickets are $42.50 each.
Haunted Hendrickson’s House of Horror
123 West Merrick Road, Valley Stream
The Village of Valley Scream presents a terrifying two-ight Halloween extravaganza: Haunted Hendrickson's House of Horror: AFTERLIFE! You will experience shock and terror inside the rooms of fright! Your biggest fears will all be realized the second you enter! Watch your back and don't come alone!
Tickets are $10 each, and a portion of the proceeds will be donated to Camp ANCHOR and the Valley Stream Youth Council. The haunt is only open Oct. 27 and 28 from 7 to 11 p.m.
Darkness Rising
229 Broadhollow Road, Farmingdale
After four years, one of Long Island’s scariest haunts is back! Located at PLAY AMUSEMENT in Farmingdale, Darkness Rising will have you running for the light.
Admission is $18 per person. The haunt is open Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays in October, and for the week leading up to Halloween.
