Man Threatened Another With Knife Over Pair Of Sneakers: Police
Police say the man tried to steal the sneakers and pulled the knife when the person he stole them from gave chase and confronted him.
BETHPAGE, NY — A Nassau man was arrested Tuesday after police say he pulled a knife on someone while trying to steal a pair of sneakers.
According to police, a 20-year-old man agreed to sell sneakers to Alexander Almonte, also 20, through Facebook Marketplace. Both men agreed to meet at the 7-Eleven at 4220 Hempstead Turnpike in Bethpage.
As the man was showing Almonte the sneakers, police say Almonte grabbed them and ran off. The man followed him and confronted him, and police say Almonte pulled out a knife and pointed it at the man. The man backed away and called 911.

Officers arrived and police say Almonte was arrested without incident.
Almonte is charged with two counts of first-degree robbery and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon. He is scheduled to be arraigned later today.
