Nassau County Voted Clinton; In 2020, Trump Leads

Hillary Clinton won Nassau County with just over 51 percent of the vote four years ago. So far in 2020, Trump has the edge.

NASSAU COUNTY, NY — Just four years after Hillary Clinton won Nassau County, President Donald Trump has a narrow lead in the county over former Vice President Joe Biden.

Clinton won Nassau County in 2016 with 51.3 percent of the vote to Trump's 45.9 percent. This year, Trump is leading Biden by about 8,000 votes.

So far, the Nassau County Board of Elections has received about 144,000 absentee ballots, a spokeswoman for told Patch on Wednesday. That includes about 73,000 from registered Democrats and 33,000 from registered Republicans. Ballots postmarked by Election Day can be received by the board through Nov. 10.

Even as absentee ballots still need to be counted in New York, Trump has already eclipsed his 2016 total. This year, 286,633 people voted to re-elect the president, an increase of about 11,000.

Meanwhile, Biden was trailing Clinton's total by about 27,000 votes. Messages left with the Nassau County GOP and Nassau County Democratic Committee weren't immediately returned.

As a whole, New York voted for Clinton with 4.14 million votes, or 58.8 percent. Trump earned 37.5 percent with 2.64 million votes.

Four years later, Biden has a healthy lead in the state at 55 percent with 3.58 million votes cast for the Democrat. Trump, meanwhile, trails at 43 percent, with 2.78 million votes cast for the president.
