Police: Homeless Man Tries to Extort $20 for Lost Cellphone

Police placed the man under arrest Thursday, charging him with fourth degree grand larceny.

A homeless man was arrested Thursday for trying to extort $20 from a woman whose cellphone she had found, Nassau County Police said. 

Police said that on Thursday, 3 p.m. in Hicksville, the female victim, 22, called her missing phone which was answered by Lamont Holloway, 46. Holloway then  told the victim that he would return her phone in exchange for $20, police said. 

The parties met at the Hicksville train station where Holloway refused to give back the phone, but demanded the $20, police said.

Holloway and the victim got in an argument, resulting in officers placing Holloway under arrest without incident, police said. The phone was not recovered.

Holloway is charged with fourth degree grand larceny and will be arraigned on Friday, Dec. 20 at First District Court in Hempstead.
