Storm Could Bring First Snowflakes of Season to Long Island

Well, here we go.

Long Island could see its first snowflakes of the season later this week.

A weather pattern more typical of late December or early January will continue across the region, according to AccuWeather. With a storm coming up the coast Thursday and temperatures solidly below normal for this time of year, there will be a chance of mixed snow and sleet on the island.

Any accumulating snow should remain well north and west of the area.

Before we get to the snow chance, rain will overspread the area Monday night as low pressure approaches from the southwest. The rain will be locally heavy at times overnight into Tuesday morning before it tapers off Tuesday afternoon as the low quickly moves away from the region.

In addition to the rain, winds will be gusty at times Monday night through the day on Tuesday. By Tuesday night, high pressure will begin to build into the area, resulting in decreasing winds and a much drier and sunnier day on Wednesday.
