Together, the students learned about what nouns are, how they can be either a person, place, thing, or animal and that they can be found all around them. Mrs. Merkleinvited three students at a time to stand by their classroom window and observe nouns in the outside world. The students reported on what they saw and the class made a list together on whether or not their nouns were in the category of people, places, things or animals.

Following the lesson, the class worked together to create their own personal “Noun
Town,” using what they had learned. The students individually took turns painting the
town, and drew and labeled pictures at their desks. After assembling the town one by one,
the masterpiece was completed and was a colorful showcase of what they had learned.
