Boy Scouts and Veterans Who Served in WWII and Korea Celebrate Armed Forces Day in Ceremony at The Bristal at Jericho

Members of Boy Scout Troop 362 joined veterans from The Bristal at Jericho for an Armed Forces Day Celebration this weekend in Jericho. Among The Bristal residents in attendance were:
- 102-year-old Morrie Corren, a WWII Army veteran who previously lived in Bellmore
- 96-year-old Marvin Goldstein, a former resident of Melville, a WWII Navy veteran who served from 1943-45

Boy Scout Troop 362 raised a flag in tribute to The Bristal Veterans and to all men and women currently serving in all branches of the U.S. Military.
Armed Forces Day is celebrated on the third Saturday in May. It’s a day to pay special tribute to the men and women of the Armed Forces. President Harry S. Truman led the effort to establish a single holiday for citizens to come together and thank our military members for their patriotic service in support of our country. On Aug. 31, 1949, Secretary of Defense Louis Johnson announced the creation of an Armed Forces Day to replace separate Army, Navy, Marine Corps and Air Force Days. The single day celebration stemmed from the unification of the Armed Forces under the Department of Defense.
