From Caped Crusader to Canine Crusader

As a fan of the 60’s television series Batman it was so exciting for me to interview Burt Ward. For those who don’t know Burt played the part of Robin the Boy Wonder, along side Adam West’s Batman. Along with the love that we share with the iconic television series, Burt Ward and I also share a great love for dogs.

What started as a trip to a local animal shelter seeking a dog for Burt’s daughter turned into something truly amazing. Gentle Giants Animal Rescue and Gentle Giants Dog Food. To date over 1,500 dogs have been rescued by Burt and his wife Tracy. I’m talking Great Danes, Wolfhounds.... large dogs! Currently the Ward Family resides with over 50 dogs at their home. Yes, I said 50! For those of you that have a dog, or dogs, at home try to imagine taking care of 50 plus at one time.

Burt’s charity Gentle Giants manufactures Gentle Giants Dog Food. The concept behind this product is not just a matter of feeding a hungry animal. Gentle Giants Dog Food is, first off, made fresh. It’s a healthy way of lowering visits to the vet and extending the lifespan of your dog. Burt and Tracy currently have dogs who have reached the age of 27..... and are still healthy and active. Months ago my wife Linda and I started using Gentle Giants Dog Food for our three loves Diesel, Casey and Forest. Let me say that we definitely see a difference in their activity and health.

Now we have all experienced the fun of carrying those large bags of dog food through the maze of cars in our local store parking lot. With Gentle Giants there are many ways to have the bags delivered right to your front door. Linda and I choose to order directly from Walmart. As far as the cost let me first say that Burt makes absolutely no profit from the sale of Gentle Giants Dog Food. “People have their charities and this is mine”, says Burt. “We have never profited one dime.” Considering the time and expense that Burt and Tracy put into their love for animals I think this in itself is truly amazing.

Burt recently appeared on the TV talk show ELLEN. From that one six minute segment every single bag of Gentle Giants Dog Food throughout the United States and Canada was sold. In response to consumer demand Burt shipped out 100 truck loads to restock the store shelves and meet the demand for his product.

Now I could not let my time on air with Burt Ward go on without talking about Batman. Stories of multiple injuries and the fact that every doctor from all the different shifts at the local hospital knew Burt was really an eye opener. Burt shares stories during my interview with him that will be a must for any Batman and Robin fan to hear.

The bottom line is that there are things you can do to help your dog maintain a long a healthy lifestyle. If Burt and Tracy Ward can do it with over 50 dogs currently in residence just think of what you can do with just one.
