CCCS Highlights Role of Child Care in a Growing Economy

The Child Care Council of Suffolk’s (CCCS) 2019 Annual Meeting – held at Touro Law School, Central Islip, New York – featured a Keynote Address by New York State Department of Labor Commissioner Roberta Reardon. CCCS also recognized Assistant Deputy Suffolk County Executive Vanessa Baird-Streeter as the “2019 Advocate of the Year.”

In her Keynote Address, Commissioner Reardon stated: Child care is a vital issue that impacts every family in the state in one way or another. Accessible, affordable child care isn’t a women’s issue, it’s not a family issue, it’s SOCIETY’S issue. We have to do a better job by our children and by our working families. The Department of Labor stands ready to dig into this issue and be a part of the solution.”

The Commissioner serves with CCCS Executive Director Jennifer Marino Rojas on Governor Andrew M. Cuomo’s Child Care Availability Task Force – established as part of the Governor’s 2018 Women’s Agenda. The Task Force is comprised of experts who are focused on developing innovative solutions that will improve access to quality, affordable child care in New York State. Commissioner Reardon described how she is inspired by Rojas’ passion, commitment and innovative ideas as they collaborate with other Task Force members to achieve its mission.

The Annual Meeting additionally featured the presentation of Staff Anniversary Recognition Awards and the reelection of the CCCS Board of Directors Officers: President Michele Lauer-Bader, Vice President Thomas Buonaiuto, Vice President Louis Hirschfield, Vice President Patricia Quiason, Secretary Alicia Marks, Treasurer Allen B. Breslow and Immediate Past President Linda Armyn. “Skillful leadership from our Board of Directors significantly enhances the Child Care Council of Suffolk’s ability to provide essential services and resources to the many constituents we serve – parents, child care professionals, the business community, and most importantly, Long Island’s children,” Rojas described.
