The recent news that 65% of Nassau County homeowners are going to see a hike in their property taxes due to the County-wide reassessment and it’s no wonder that homeowners are looking for answers…and some relief. CEO Sean Acosta.

“Our phone has been ringing off the hook,” said Acosta. “Everyone received their general tax bill recently and they are seeing an increase in their taxes due to the reassessment. With the reassessment, the value of some homes doubled or tripled, and this is reflected in the general tax bill.”
The deadline for tax grievance filings is March 1, 2021 in Nassau County and May 21, 2021 in Suffolk County.

Acosta says that many homeowners are also calling with questions about the Nassau County Taxpayer Protection Program, which is a five-year phase-in of the new assessments.
“It basically means that what you are paying now, is just going to up,” said Acosta.
The COVID-19 pandemic has also punched a hole in all county and local municipality budgets, and it will fall on the shoulders of homeowners to plug that hole. This means bracing for a property tax increase.
