Northern Parkway Student Selected to Take Part in NBA Math Hoops National Tournament

Uniondale, N.Y. - He shoots, he scores. Dylan Francis, a 4th grade scholar at Northern Parkway Elementary School in the Uniondale Union Free School District, has been selected to participate in the annual NBA Math Hoops National Tournament. Dylan is the only student from New York to be chosen for this opportunity this year. The tournament will take place in Detroit, Michigan at a later date yet to be determined.
Under the supervision and guidance of both Dylan’s teacher, Mr. Cyriac, and Dr. Sheilah Jefferson-Isaac, Assistant Principal at Northern Parkway, the program has flourished in the school. Dylan is the 2nd scholar from Northern Parkway to be selected to participate in the NBA Math Hoops tournament in the last few years.
The NBA Math Hoops tournament is an annual event that features activities such as a fast-paced basketball board game, curriculum, and event series. This program is available for students ranging from third grade to eighth grade. The program is run by Learn Fresh, in partnership with NBA Cares. Those selected to participate have the opportunity to learn and hone fundamental math skills by engaging in math related games that integrate the statistics of their favorite NBA and WNBA players and competing in an in-class basketball league against their peers.
