The National Weather Service has issued a special weather statement for Long Island.

The National Weather Service has issued the following special weather statement for Long Island:

Areas of fog with a visibility of mostly one half to one mile will continue across the entire tri state area this morning. There will however be some areas where visibility will be reduced to a quarter mile or less by the fog. The visibility may vary significantly in just a short distance. Motorists need to be alert for sudden changes in visibility. Allow extra space between you and the vehicle ahead of you and only use low beam headlights. A dense fog advisory may be needed.

Friday- Rain, mainly after 10am. The rain could be heavy at times. Widespread fog, mainly before 10am. Steady temperature around 53. Breezy, with a south wind 16 to 21 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New precipitation amounts between three quarters and one inch possible.

Friday Night- Rain and possibly a thunderstorm. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. Areas of fog. Low around 40. South wind 13 to 16 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New rainfall amounts between 1 and 2 inches possible.

Saturday- A 50 percent chance of rain before 9am. Areas of fog before 9am. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a temperature falling to around 32 by 5pm. Wind chill values between 20 and 30. Southwest wind 11 to 18 mph becoming north in the afternoon.

Saturday Night- Partly cloudy, with a low around 15. Wind chill values between 5 and 10. North wind 11 to 15 mph.

Sunday- Mostly sunny, with a high near 26. North wind 9 to 13 mph.

M.L.King Day- Partly sunny, with a high near 30.

Monday Night- A 30 percent chance of snow after midnight. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 25.

Tuesday- A 50 percent chance of snow. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 35.

Tuesday Night- A 30 percent chance of snow. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 24.

Wednesday- A 30 percent chance of snow. Partly sunny, with a high near 30.
