Uniondale Students Get to Work

Uniondale School District Introduces Next Generation of Workforce to Local Professionals

Uniondale, N.Y. – Recently, students in the New York State Pathways in Technology (NYS P-TECH) program in the Uniondale Union Free School District had the opportunity to network and connect with some of the top manufacturing companies in the country. Corporations such as Estée Lauder Companies Inc. and Nature’s Bounty visited Farmingdale State College to meet with these remarkable students and explore career opportunities with them. This event gave students the opportunity to hand out resumes and portfolios to companies in hopes of employment when they graduate from the program in May.

Uniondale Schools is the lead district for Long Island P-TECH, the only NYS P-TECH Grant on Long Island. Freeport and Wyandanch Schools also participate in the program under this grant. Over 25 former P-TECH students from Uniondale, Wyandanch, and Freeport who will be graduating from Farmingdale State College in May 2020 with an AAS degree in mechanical engineering technology, entered this program during their high school years.

The New York State Pathways in Technology (NYS P-TECH) program is a partnership that will prepare thousands of New York students for high-paying jobs of the future in technology, manufacturing, healthcare and finance—fields that have high demand on Long Island. Six years ago, the Uniondale Union Free School District received this grant to provide program-participating students with free college tuition, college supplies, and other additional support to help them earn their associate degree in mechanical engineering from Farmingdale State College.
