5 Sickened By Carbon Monoxide At LES Deli, FDNY Says

Carbon monoxide levels spiked at a Lower East Side deli, hurting five people, the FDNY said.

LOWER EAST SIDE, NY β€” Five people were sickened after carbon monoxide levels spiked at a Lower East Side deli, an FDNY spokesperson said.

Firefighters rushed to Optimum Gourmet Deli at Broome and Ludlow streets about 7:40 a.m. for high carbon monoxide levels on the ground floor of the deli, according to the FDNY official.

The spokesperson said one person was seriously hurt. Emergency medical personnel rushed the person to Weill Cornell Medical Center. Four others had minor injuries.

The high CO levels were under control by about 8:50 a.m.
