Burglars Break Through Basement Wall to Steal Money From Safe: NYPD

LOWER EAST SIDE, NY — A pair of very determined burglars busted through a basement wall to steal from a real estate company during business hours, according to police.

The burglary happened on Aug. 18 at 189 Orchard St., when two men cut the padlock off a cellar door of a neighboring business in order to gain access to the basement, police said. The men then broke through a sheet rock wall to access Lucky's Real Estate's basement safe next door.

The pair made off with an undetermined amount of cash and a bracelet from Lucky's safe at 4 p.m., cops said.

The location, 189 Orchard St., was the long-time home of antique jewelry shop Doyle & Doyle until November 2013.

Police describe both men as 30 to 40 years old, 5-foot-9 and about 170 to 180 pounds. Police are looking for the men in the surveillance video below.
