Chinatown Ice Cream Shop Faces Eviction, Report Says
The family-run ice cream shop has been open in Chinatown since 1978.

CHINATOWN, NY β A local family that's operated a Chinatown ice cream shop for 40 years is facing eviction thanks to a dispute with the landlord, according to a report.
The Original Chinatown Ice Cream Factory, located at 65 Bayard St., has operated out of its Chinatown storefront since 1978. The Seids, the family that's run the shop for four decades, say that their landlord is trying to push them out of the space by accusing them of using too much water, the family told the New York Post.
The family, which used to own the Bayard Street building before selling it in 2004, thinks the landlord of the property is trying to push them out of their $1,000-a-month rent by accusing them of excessive water use.

"My landlord is just really unbearable," co-owner Christina Seid, 35, told the Post. "He is doing anything he can to get us out to get a higher rent."
The family filed a lawsuit against their landlord this month to try and halt the eviction, stating that the landlord is "responsible for all water charges," according to the Post.
