LOWER EAST SIDE, NY β€” The Lower East Side falafel shop Da Falafel Guys was temporarily closed by the city this month after inspectors found evidence of live roaches in the facility, according to city records.

The small falafel joint, located at 127 Rivington St., was inspected last week and found to have numerous violations by city inspectors. The restaurant's review showed that in addition to the roaches, food contact services were not properly washed and that the facility was not vermin proof.

Da Falafel Guys will have a chance to amend the violations before a second inspection, according to city policy. The restaurant did not respond to a phone call or message asking for comment on Monday. The restaurant's Grub Hub page says it isn't currently open.

Da Falafel Guys opened earlier this year and replaced the Falafel Shop, which had a four-year run at the same location. Da Falafel Guys is under different ownership than its predecessor.
