East Side Resiliency Final Design To Be Unveiled At CB 3 Meeting
Several waterfront and parks projects will be discussed at Community Board 3's committee meeting Thursday.

LOWER EAST SIDE, NY β The final design for the massive resiliency project on the east side of Manhattan will be presented Thursday at a Community Board 3 committee meeting.
A slew of Lower East Side and East Village projects will be discussed at the parks and waterfront committee meeting, scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at the BRC Senior Services center, 30 Delancey St.
Among those include a presentation from the Department of Design and Construction on the $1.45 billion resiliency plan, dubbed the East Side Coastal Resiliency project. The final design is expected to be unveiled, building on past presentations.

City Council gave the greenlight to the flood protection plan last month, more than seven years after Superstorm Sandy devastated the neighborhood. The plan has received intense criticism since a previous version was overhauled last fall. Though local leaders have warmed up to the current scheme, some neighborhood groups plan to file a lawsuit over the matter.
On Thursday, the Parks Department will also present interim recreation improvements during the five years of construction when parts of East River Park will be offline.

There will also be updates from the Department of Sanitation on a plan to relocate garbage trucks from a residential East 10th Street block to Pier 42. The trucks have been posted in the East Village for more than a year, outraging neighbors and business owners.
Last month, Mayor Bill de Blasio announced a plan to relocate the trucks to Pier 42 β the same pier where a long-delayed open space is supposed to be built by 2021.
The Parks Department will be on hand to discuss the future of the Baruch Bathhouse, a derelict, empty building on the Lower East Side that's in the works to be repurposed for community use. There will be a discussion on the building's condition and history as well as asks for recommendations for the eventual requests for proposals.
