Electrical Fire Evacuates State Supreme Court Friday

The FDNY reported to the scene just after noon for an electrical fire in the basement of the courthouse.

An electrical fire in the basement of the New York State Supreme Court building at 100 Centre St. in Chinatown led to an evacuation midday on Friday.

The FDNY said they reported to a call of heavy smoke due to an electrical fire at 12:18 p.m. in the courthouse basement. An FDNY spokesperson said the fire had been "knocked down" but they remain on the scene as of 1 p.m. on Friday. It was officially brought under control at 1:26 p.m.

The building was partially evacuated, according to the FDNY, including those on trial under police escort.

The FDNY reports there were no injuries.

The building houses the New York State Supreme Court and New York City criminal court for Manhattan.

The setting of 100 Centre Street was used as a TV show by the same name starring Alan Arkin and Bobby Cannavale on A&E Network. The legal drama aired for two seasons from 2001-2002.
