LES Diner Cup & Saucer To Close After 30 Years: Report
The neighborhood standby Cup & Saucer is shutting its doors thanks to a rent hike, according to its owners.

LOWER EAST SIDE, NY β The longtime Lower East Side diner Cup & Saucer will shut its doors next week after nearly 30 years in business, according to multiple media reports.
The no-frills diner has long been a staple of the neighborhood, evidence of the Lower East Side's pre-gentrification self. Now, its owners tell the Lo-Down that a rent hike on the property means they can no longer afford to stay open. The Lo-Down reports that the diner's rent was increased to $15,000 a month, including real estate taxes.
No one at the diner was immediately able to provide more information to Patch when a reporter call on Wednesday afternoon. (Want more local news? Sign up here for free news alerts and neighborhood updates from Patch.)

Cup & Saucer, located at 89 Canal St., has been opened for decades. Its current owners, John Vasilopoulos and Nick Castanos, have run the restaurant since 1988, but the diner has been open for years before that under different management, according to the Lo-Down.
A person who answered the phone at a phone number listed for the building's landlord declined to comment.
