Lower East Side Community Center Gets Security, Technology Upgrades
State Sen. Daniel Squadron directed more than $40,000 in state funding towards the community center, which serves seniors and youth.

LOWER EAST SIDE, NY β The Grand Street Settlement's Community Center is getting 25 security cameras and an upgraded monitoring system at as part of an effort led by State Sen. Daniel Squadron in partnership with Grand Street Settlement and the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA).
Squadron's office announced that the Senator directed more than $40,000 in state funding toward the community center, which serves seniors and youth through programming and services. The project will also include more recording and storage devices, an updated flat screen monitor and improved exterior lighting, according to Squadron's office.

A spokesperson for Sen. Squadron told Patch on Friday that 16 existing cameras at the center will be replaced and nine additional cameras will be installed to cover areas that were previously not monitored.

Squadron also presented the center, which is located at 80 Pitt St., with a Senate Resolution to help celebrate its 100th anniversary.
