Touching 3rd Rail Kills Man On LES Subway Track, Cops Say
A man died inside the tunnels along the F line early Thursday after being electrocuted from touching the third rail, cops said.

LOWER EAST SIDE, NY β A man was electrocuted to death after touching the third rail inside the tunnels on the F line early Thursday, cops said.
The man, 56, was unconscious and unresponsive when cops responded about 1:30 a.m. Thursday, according to police.
Emergency responders determined he made contact with the third rail, which has some 600 volts of electricity running through it to power the subways. He was 100 feet north of the Delancey Street station in the tunnels along the F line when emergency responders pronounced him dead, police said.

The man's identity has not been released, according to police. Police are still investigating why the man was walking inside the tunnel.
The New York Daily News, which first reported the death, wrote the man was homeless, and he was last living in a Brooklyn shelter.

Earlier this month, another man was found dead inside of a tunnel in the Upper East Side, the News reported.
