Man Smashes Buddha Statue In Chinatown, Police Say

A man jumped over a locked gate and smashed a Buddha statue, police said.

CHINATOWN, NY β€” A man hopped over a locked gate at a Buddhist organization in Chinatown and smashed a Buddha statue earlier this month, the New York Police Department said.

The man smashed the statue at the Sung Tak Buddhist Association, located at 15 Pike St., Saturday, May 18 about 7:40 p.m., police said.

He fled northbound at Pike Street and East Broadway, police said.

Police said the man was in his 20s and was seen wearing white pants and a black shirt in surveillance footage released by police.
