No Weekend J/M Trains Between Manhattan, Brooklyn Until February

The MTA quietly announced starting this weekend there will be no J/M train service between the two boroughs until 2019.

LOWER EAST SIDE, NY β€” J/M train riders will experience the latest subway hell with no weekend service between Manhattan and Brooklyn β€” until February, 2019.

The J/M/Z lines will undergo extensive track maintenance and repairs in anticipation of the 15-month L train shutdown that will displace some 225,000 commuters who use the line each day to travel between Brooklyn and Manhattan, the MTA announced.

Straphangers will flock to the J/M/Z lines during the shutdown and the MTA is preforming as much maintenance on the lines as possible to limit unplanned service outages when the L train converts into a Brooklyn-only line starting April 27, 2019.

Free shuttle buses will ferry New Yorkers from Hewes Street to Essex Street, and between Essex and Metropolitan Avenue during the outage.

Transit workers are also making station upgrades along the lines including adding more turnstiles and widening stairs and subway entrances at select stations.
