LOWER EAST SIDE, NY β Records dating back to the 19th century from the Bowery Savings Bank were saved from being shredded Monday morning, according to a New York Times report.
Archives from the Bowery Savings Bank had been tucked away at a Capital One Bank branch on Fulton St. in Brooklyn since about 2004, the Times reported.
Monday morning, papers and materials dating back to the 19th century were being hauled out to a shredding truck during preparations ahead of the branch's closure next month, according to the Times.

Archivists and others pressured Capital One to save the records from the Bowery bank, formerly located at the landmarked building 130 Bowery that ultimately became a part of Capital One Bank, the Times wrote. Today, 130 Bowery is a an event space called Capitale.
The records show people's jobs, where they lived, how much money they had save or borrowed, and other details that unveil more historical details from the Lower East Side bank.
