F Train Mess As Smoke Reported At 2nd Ave Subway Station: MTA
The F and M trains were re-routed Friday after a fire broke out on the tracks between Houston Street and Broadway.

LOWER EAST SIDE β A fire broke out on the F train tracks in lower Manhattan Friday morning, causing a mess for commuters on multiple subway lines, transit and fire officials said.
The FDNY responded to a fire on the tracks between Houston Street and Broadway around 8:30 and had the blaze under control by 9:26, an FDNY spokesman said. The fire did not cause any injuries.
Smoke from the fire enveloped the Second Avenue Station on the F line, according to the MTA and subway passengers posting on social media. All F and M trains were rerouted to the C line and delayed, the MTA said on Twitter, with no F train service at some stations on the Lower East Side.

"The smoke was evident the moment we pulled into the 2nd Avenue station where the F train runs through. The conductor opened doors to let passengers out but consequentially letting in smoke/odor which carried with us until I exited @ York st," Anabel Sosa wrote on Twitter.
While firefighters were operating on the train tracks, F train passengers were left stalled in stations.

"They said that FDNY is on the scene to 'extinguish the cause of the smoke condition' which I guess is a less alarming way to say something is on fire," @Anna_Snackz said on Twitter.

You can see the smoke better here. Just spoke with an @FDNY firefighter who says itβs pretty bad down there. Avoid F train if possible @fox5ny pic.twitter.com/mdq3mmvTPz
