Whole Foods Bowery: Why Are The Tables Sticky?

Whole Foods has placed a sign at the entrance to their second floor dining area apologizing for the "current condition of our cafe tables."

LOWER EAST SIDE, NY β€” The Whole Foods Bowery offers a number of fine amenities on their second floor cafe: barbecue sandwiches made to order, free Wi-Fi and expansive seating, featuring both long and rounded wooden tables.

There's just one catch: Those tables are sticky.

Patch checked it out for ourselves Saturday, Aug. 27, and upon touching any of the tables in the cafe, it was undeniable that the tables were sticky. The stickiness did not last, but it was a less-than-ideal momentary experience.

A manager at Whole Foods Bowery confirmed that the tables are sticky. He said that the sign regarding the tables was put up β€œbecause they’re a little sticky. We’re looking at options to resurface them.”

To be clear, the stickiness is not a stickiness that lasts outside of the Whole Foods. A patron would not leave the area with their hand still feeling sticky. It's a stickiness that lasts in the moment and then is gone.

While the sign looks quite official, Whole Foods Bowery would not comment on whether the sign was made in-house or if it came from corporate headquarters.

Patch reached out to Whole Foods' Northeast press contacts, Michael Sinatra and Jessica Ventura, for any comment. We will update this article when we hear back from them.

The Whole Foods Bowery is located at 95 E Houston St. It's open everyday from 8 a.m. - 11 p.m.

All of these tables are sticky.

Look at how nice this table is. It's also sticky.
