Police said that the investigation revealed both men had forced their ways into an apartment to confront someone about a previous fight.
Fogo and Wilson began beating up the person, police said, after which another person in the apartment fired his weapon and struck Wilson. The two men then fled from the apartment.
Police said the man who fired his weapon was a licensed gun owner who provided the police all proper documents.
Wilson was treated for injuries that were not life-threatening and released.
Fogo and Wilson were charged with felony first-degree burglary.
After being arraigned, the men were sent to the Sullivan County Jail in lieu of bail.
Police said this is an ongoing investigation.
State police were assisted by the Village of Monticello Police Department, Sullivan County Sheriff's Office and the Sullivan County District Attorney's Office.
