1-Year-Old Boy, Poughkeepsie Woman Killed In 2-Car Crash

Police said the woman who was killed rear-ended another car on Route 9.

WAPPINGERS FALLS, NY — A 1-year-old child and a Poughkeepsie woman were killed as a result of a two-car crash Monday in Wappingers Falls.

The New York State Police said the fatal crash happened around 3:30 p.m. on Route 9 in the area of New Hackensack Road.

The initial investigation found that Loraine Baker, 48, of Poughkeepsie, was driving her 2017 Honda CRV south on Route 9 when she rear-ended a 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer.

Baker was airlifted to Westchester Medical Center where she died of her injuries.

Rene Luis Ramirez, 37, of Poughkeepsie, was driving the Trailblazer. She and her passengers — Nelvis Luis Cruz, 23; Esteban Luis Luis, 4, and Emilio Luis Luis, 1 — were all taken to MidHudson Regional Hospital with serious injuries.

Emilio Luis Luis died of his injuries at the hospital, police said.

Route 9 was closed in both directions for about 3-1/2 hours.

Police said the investigation remains ongoing and updates will be provided as they become available.
