BEACON, NY — Beacon High School and Rombout Middle School in the Beacon City School District will be closed to students until Thursday, Nov. 5.

A letter to the community posted on the district's website from Superintendent Matt Landahl said that students in those buildings will be using remote learning through Wednesday, Nov. 4.

"Keeping both schools on the remote learning plan allows us to monitor the COVID test results that will be shared with us in the coming day," Landahl said.

"As you know we have prioritized reopening schools in the BCSD but doing it in a safe manner for students and staff," he said. "These experiences are frustrating and challenging for all of us but they are also the result of a plan based on communication, quick test results, collaboration with the health department and taking everyone's health and safety seriously."

Landahl said he will let the community know on Wednesday whether the closings need to be extended.

He said you only need to quarantine if you have been contacted directly by school staff, which should be completed by Friday.

On Wednesday, the district received confirmation that two positive cases of the new coronavirus were found at the high school and an initial positive case at the middle school.
