2 Killed In 2 Separate Crashes Over Weekend In Dutchess County

The sheriff's office is asking if anyone witnessed the crashes and could provide any information.

DUTCHESS COUNTY, NY — Two people were killed in two separate accidents over the weekend in Dutchess County.

The Dutchess County Sheriff's Office said the first incident happened around 6 p.m. Saturday on Route 82 near Clove Branch Road in East Fishkill.

Sheriff's deputies were called to the area for a report of a car-pedestrian crash.

The investigation found that Jenna A. Wilkins, 24, of Hopewell Junction, was walking north on an unlit portion of Route 82 when she was struck by a 2007 Hyundai SUV.

Wilkins suffered serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, the sheriff's office said.

No charges have been filed at this time, and the primary contributing factor in the crash appears to have been Wilkins' actions.

Anyone who may have witnessed the crash or has information about it is asked to call Detective Twaddell at 845-486-3828.

Around 12:30 p.m. Sunday, a serious crash was reported in the town of North East on Route 22 near Smithfield Road.

Authorities said James M. Shaughnessy, 52, of Millerton, was driving a 2000 Chevrolet S-10 pickup south on Route 22 when he lost control of the vehicle.

The pickup left the roadway onto the western shoulder and struck a tree.

Shaughnessy, who was the sole occupant, suffered serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The sheriff's office said the primary contributing factor appears to have been driver inattention.
