2 NY J.C. Penney Stores Closing

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY — Two J.C. Penney stores in New York have been slated to close. The retailer will be shuttering the stores permanently while in Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

The store in Poughkeepsie at the Poughkeepsie Galleria and the one at the South Shore Mall in Bay Shore were targeted for this round of closures.

The stores are among 13 locations announced that will be going out of business.

Liquidation sales are expected begin at the stores July 3 after a sign off by a federal judge, the Poughkeepsie Journal reported.

J.C. Penney announced is bankruptcy in mid-May, saying it was going to reduce its store footprint and concentrate on the strongest stores and its online presence.

The Poughkeepsie store had just reopened to inside shopping when the Mid-Hudson Region entered Phase 3 of the NY Forward reopening plan.
