Rockefeller Center Chooses 2020 Christmas Tree

The Norway spruce will begin its journey to midtown Manhattan Thursday.

ONEONTA, NY — The Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree for 2020 has been chosen.

According to a tweet Wednesday from Rockefeller Center, the 2020 tree is from Oneonta, Ostego County.

The Norway spruce will begin its journey Thursday and will arrive at Rockefeller Center Saturday "to kick off the holiday season."

The three is 75 feet tall and weighs 11 tons, Today reported.

It was donated by Al Dick, who owns Daddy Al's General Store in Oneonta.

Last year's tree, which came from Florida, Orange County, was also a Norway spruce, but was 2 feet taller. In 2018, the Christmas tree came from Wallkill, Ulster County.

There are as yet no details on when the lighting ceremony will take place nor have the visiting hours been announced.

This year's tree will once again be donated to Habitat for Humanity after the holiday season is over to be milled, treated and made into lumber that will be used for building homes.
