5 Sent To Hospital After 2 School Buses Collide

The Hyde Park school buses contained two students, two drivers and a bus monitor.

HYDE PARK, NY — Five people were sent to the hospital after an accident involving two Hyde Park Central School District school buses Monday.

According to a Facebook post from the Roosevelt Fire District, the incident occurred around 2:20 p.m. Monday near the intersection of Route 9G and Smith Court.

At the scene, firefighters found two small school buses, with one overturned on its side.

Responders said there was no entrapment. There were a total of five people involved, all of whom were taken to area hospitals.

Two students and two bus drivers were released from the hospital, the Poughkeepsie Journal said. The other person was being held for observation.

Authorities said that one bus with only the driver aboard failed to yield the right of way, causing the second bus, with driver, monitor and two preteen students on board, rolled over onto its side, the Poughkeepsie Journal reported.

The Roosevelt Fire District said it was assisted by the Fairview Fire District, Mobile Life Support Services, Hyde Park Police, the Dutchess County Sheriff's Office, the New York State Police, the state Park Police, Dutchess County Department of Emergency Response and the Hyde Park Central School District.
