8 Cadets Expelled From West Point Over Cheating Scandal
The military academy also eliminated a policy that allowed cadets to admit wrongdoing as a way to avoid being kicked out of school.
WEST POINT, NY — Eight West Point cadets have been expelled and more than 50 others will be required to repeat a year of instruction in the wake of the worst academic scandal since the 1970s.
Of those expelled, five were offered the opportunity to enlist in the Army and reapply at the military academy, USA Today reported.
Seventy-three cadets were accused of cheating, and 61 were found guilty of cheating. The scandal was revealed in December.

Fifty-one were turned back for the full year; two, for six months.
West Point will also be ending a policy, known as the willful admission process, that allowed a cadet who admitted wrongdoing to avoid being kicked out of school, the Wall Street Journal said.

Academy Superintendent Lt. Gen. Darryl A. Williams said the policy had to go because it didn't achieve the desired intent.
