FISHKILL, NY — Online mega-retailer Amazon is considering putting a logistics center in the mid-Hudson Valley.

The company is looking to possibly investment $135 million in the former IBM West Campus site in East Fishkill in Dutchess County.

If it comes to fruition, the center could create up to 500 new jobs over the next three years, a spokesperson for Think Dutchess Alliance for Business said.

Amazon is still considering other locations across the United States but Dutchess County remains the frontrunner, according to a spokesperson.

Dutchess County Executive Marc Molinaro said Amazon's proposed investment in the former IBM campus would help the county recover from the economic impact of the new coronavirus pandemic.

"Job creation and growing the economy is a top priority, and a significant investment by Amazon in Dutchess County will strengthen and secure the logistics industry cluster in the Hudson Valley, while creating hundreds of jobs in the county," he said.

Molinaro said, despite the uncertainty in the economy, the expansion would provide an economic boost for the community and job opportunities for residents.

"We're proud that Amazon has recognized the great strides we have taken over the last nine years to make Dutchess County so attractive for business," he said.

The Dutchess County Industrial Development Agency is negotiating a payment in lieu of tax agreement, sales tax exemption and mortgage tax exemption as well as employee training assistance.

The town of East Fishkill developed specialized zoning to attract new investment to the former IBM West Campus site, according to Town Supervisor Nicholas D'Alessandro.
