Valerie Frary, the manager of human resources, said Rotron is considered an essential business. The planned temporary closing triggered a requirement to file a WARN Act notice with the state Department of Labor. She said a furlough would have required the same notification.

Upon reopening, in order to follow social distancing guidelines, Frary said production was split into two shifts and employees were given the opportunity to work the second shift.
