Fight At Gas Station Leads To Weapons Charges: Police

After being taken into custody, police said the man began banging his head against the inside of the door of the police car.

LIBERTY, NY — An Orange County resident faces weapons charges after being accused of participating in a fight at a gas station in Sullivan County.

The New York State Police said troopers responded Sunday to a fight in progress at the Sunoco gas station on North Main Street in the village of Liberty.

When troopers arrived, they found a person being treated by EMS personnel and another person leaving the area.

Troopers stopped the person who was leaving; he was identified as Nyyair Carney, 23, of Port Jervis.

Police said there was a gun in his waistband, which was removed with the help of the Sullivan County Sheriff's Office.

Carney was arrested, and while he was being taken to the Liberty barracks, police said he began to bang his head on the rear passenger door of the police car.

He was taken by ambulance to the hospital where he was treated and released back into the custody of the state police.

Carney was charged with second- and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, felonies.

He was arraigned in the Town of Fallsburg Court and sent to the Sullivan County Jail without bail.

Police said Carney is next scheduled to appear in the Town of Liberty Court April 6.
