Germantown Man Critically Injured In Motorcycle Crash

The incident happened on Route 9 in Red Hook, police said.

RED HOOK, NY — A Germantown man is in critical condition following a motorcycle crash in Red Hook Tuesday.

The Red Hook Police Department said the accident between a motorcycle and a car happened around 3:30 p.m. on Route 9 just north of Feller Newsmark Road in the town of Red Hook.

The preliminary investigation found that Ben G. Exxell, 35, of Germantown, was riding a 2000 Yamaha R1 motorcycle north on Route 9 when he tried to pass a dump truck.

He failed to see a 2017 Jeep turning into a driveway in front of the dump truck and subsequently hit the Jeep on the driver's side. He was ejected from the motorcycle.

Exxell was airlifted to Westchester Medical Center where he was listed in critical condition.

The driver of the Jeep, a 75-year-old Red Hook resident, was evaluated at the scene and denied medical treatment.

Route 9 was shut down for about two and a half hours while the New York State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit assisted with the investigation.

The Red Hook police were also assisted by the Red Hook Fire Company and Northern Dutchess Paramedics.
